SXSW Sydney has unveiled that SXSW Pitch is coming to Sydney, with submissions now open, as part of the inaugural SXSW Sydney event in October 2023.
Following the success of SXSW Pitch in Austin, SXSW Sydney Pitch will showcase some of the most exciting and mission-oriented innovations, start-ups and people creating impactful companies, products, services and ideas.
Start-ups from around the world will pitch their ideas to a panel of industry experts, high-profile media professionals, and venture capital and angel investors in front of a live audience.
The theme of this year’s local competition is ‘Big Shifts’, which reflects the global upheaval and change that is galvanising all industries from the challenges of climate change to the rapid integration of AI.
The six categories for SXSW Sydney Pitch include:
- Sustainability, Circular Economy & Urban Innovation
- Generative AI and Robotics innovation
- Healthcare, Biotech, Future of Medicine, Augmenting Humans
- Space Habitation, Travel & Transport
- Law & Order in Cyberspace, Security & Fintech
- Game On, Let’s play
The winner will be flown to Austin to pitch their idea at SXSW Pitch, whichhas seen huge success. Of the 613 companies who participated to date, over 93% received funding in excess of $21.5 billion and of these companies, 16% have been acquired by the likes of Twitter, Facebook, Google, and Apple.
