Since the launch of it three weeks ago, Getting Aussie Business Online has seen over 4,100 Aussie business setup a website through the initiative.

Launched by Google and MYOB, Getting Aussie Business Online is a nationwide initiative to help small businesses set up a free website with the essential information about their business. The aim was to help at least 50,000 business get online by the end of the year.

MYOB CEO Tim Reed said the internet is used as a regular research tool and it is necessary for Australian business including retailers to have some online presence.

“It’s a clear sign that once you remove the barriers of cost, lack of knowledge and time for Aussie business owners, they are keen to get online and be part of the digital economy.”

On average, eight Australian business owners have set up their business website every hour since launch.

To be set up a free website, business owners need to enter their ABN, a phone number, and a few details about their business such as street address, preferred contact method, and opening hours. The website is then available immediately. The average time taken to set up a website is about 15 minutes.
