7-Eleven fuel app

7-Eleven says its world-first fuel app has saved motorists more than $1 million on fuel purchases since its launch on 3 March 2016.

The 7-Eleven Fuel App allows motorists to search their five nearest 7-Eleven Fuel Stores to find the lowest price on fuel.

“Nearly 4.5 million searches for the best local price have been made over the last twelve months through the 7-Eleven Fuel App, with around 20,000 searches a day being made this year”, a 7-Eleven spokesperson said.

“Customers can then ‘lock in’ their best price and redeem petrol for that amount at any 7-Eleven store in Australia within seven days.

“The innovative concept means customers can redeem the best local deal on fuel purchases regardless of which 7-Eleven fuel store they fill up at.”

Over the past year, nearly 300,000 fuel price locks have been redeemed through the 7-Eleven Fuel App. Customers have saved more than $1 million on fuel purchases, or an average of 10.5 cents per litre.

The app also provides registered users with a monthly range of free offers and discounts on products in-store, and helps consumers find their nearest store out of the 640 store network.

Unlike fuel discount schemes, 7-Eleven’s program doesn’t require customers to spend money in-store to redeem fuel savings.

C&I Week contacted 7-Eleven to see whether the app has driven incremental fuel volume and what effect it might have had inside the store.

7-Eleven responded: “We’re delighted that a significant proportion of Fuel App users are new customers to 7-Eleven.

“Our Fuel App users also shop more regularly with us, both for fuel and in-store.

“Through the fuel app, we’ve been able to offer our customers a convenient and innovative way to find their best local price for fuel, along with great promotions and discounts in-store for registered app users.”

The app has been downloaded nearly 500,000 times.
