Group buying website Stardeals that operates as part of the global Groupon network has entered the Melbourne market.

Stardeals managing director Patrick Schmidt said this follows the launch of the company in Sydney in February where there’s been an interest from people in Melbourne.

“They’ve been asking us to offer deals in Melbourne so we’ve been working very hard to do just that.  It’s great that we can now satisfy Melbournians’ demands for the best deals from the best businesses the city has to offer,” he said.

Stardeals negotiates discounts with local businesses allowing its subscribers access to daily email alerting them about the deals. The deals are activated only when a minimum number of people agree to buy, encouraging subscribers to share the promotion with family and friends.

According to Schmidt, Stardeals is expected to be rolled-out to all capital cities in the country in the first half of 2011.

“Our popularity in Sydney has also leaked into other states with people from all major capital cities wanting to know when we will be in their city too,” he said.
