Groupon has joined Australia’s group buying market with the launch of its daily deal site Stardeals in Sydney and Melbourne.

Part of the US-based Groupon network, Stardeals will provide subscribers free daily emails alerting them to the deals that are only activated when a minimum number of people agree to buying.

Groupon president and CEO Rob Somon said Stardeals will be used to leverage Groupon in the Australian market.

“We’re thrilled to introduce our network of 60 million subscribers to the world-class merchants of Australia,” he said.

During its first week serving Sydney and Melbourne, Stardeals’ featured deals include surfing lessons, dance classes and upscale spa treatments. The site will expand to serve eight more territories in coming months.
