Grocery shopping at any time of the day with Woolworths will be available to residents and visitors of Brisbane Airport’s Skygate retail precinct.
From July 1, Woolworths is opening its first 24 hour supermarket in Queensland, which will give residents, passengers and airport workers to shop at time that suits them. The full supermarket range will be available to them as will Woolworth’s everyday savings.
Michael Batycki, Woolworths Queensland state manager, said there is a demand for 24 hour shopping, especially in an area where there are a lot of shift workers.
The supermarket’s new hours will also benefit staff. “Our increased opening hours mean more employment opportunities, while current staff have the flexibility to alter or extend their shifts to suit their lifestyle," Batycki said.
As for whether the 24 hours will be rolled out elsewhere, Woolworths spokesperson Benedict Brook told RetailBiz: “Brisbane Airport is a unique situation. However, our preference is always to be able to match our store opening times to our customers shopping habits.”
Brisbane Airport is the third largest gateway to Australia with flights arriving and departing around the clock, more than 20 million passengers annually and over 20,000 people employed on site.
