Woolworths has committed to labelling 100 per cent of its private label products with Daily Intake Guide (DIG) front-of-pack nutritional labels.

Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) chief executive Kate Carnell has welcomed the news saying the industry has been working closely with retailers and key stakeholders as part of an ongoing awareness-raising campaign of DIG over the past four years.

“Woolworths has followed in the footsteps of industry to promote the use of DIG, which is an ideal way for people and families to formulate a daily eating plan according to their individual needs and activity levels,” she said.

DIG thumbnail labels already feature on more than 4000 supermarket products across Australia and Woolworths’ plans to increase the use of DIG to its full range of products within the next 12 months.

DIG front-of-pack labels offer an easy-to-follow tool that gives people information to formulate a daily eating plan according to their individual needs and activity levels.  The thumbnails outline the amount of energy, fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt in a standard portion of the food and how that translates to average daily intake.
