Australian-based fashion stationery retailer kikki.K has been invited by the Changi Airport Group (CAG) to open at the Changi International Airport in Singapore next month.

This will be the company’s third boutique store in Asia.

Founder Kristina Karlsson, currently a finalist in the 2010 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, told Retailbiz that the opening will be part of the airport’s terminal two redevelopment.

“CAG was searching for innovative international retailers with a clear point of difference to add interest to Changi’s retail mix,” she said.

The November opening at the airport will bring the privately owned Melbourne business footprint to over 50 stores in less then ten years. Its first international store opened a year ago in Singapore’s Orchard Road that attracted over 20,000 customers in opening week and over 700,000 in the first 12 months.

According to Karlsson, the focus has always been to expand the business globally.

“Having already established ourselves in Australia and New Zealand, Asia was the next logical step. Singapore is well known as a leading shopping destination. The initial response from the Singaporean market has been amazing, so we have decided to open more stores,” she said.

Future store openings are expected but no confirmations on dates or locations have been made.
