Formerly the ‘flagship store’ of Spar in Sydney, the supermarket has re-opened as IGA Alexandria.
The supermarket is the 20th Spar store to have joined IGA’s network of independently owned stores throughout NSW and Queensland in the calendar year to the end of July, 2011.
Co-owner Nathan LoRusso said since the rebrand has helped generated a 20 per cent rise in sales.
“We are tailoring our store and our product offering to service the needs of people in the neighbourhood, backed by the buying power of a national buying power of our supplier Metcash and IGA’s ‘How the locals like it’ advertising campaign”.
The new supermarket is expected to employ up to 40 local staff in full-time and casual jobs, while stocking Black & Gold and Signature private label products. The owners plan to have a regular schedule of wine tastings and cooking demonstrations, with special orders, promotions and great prices for shoppers.
