Online retailer Shoes of Prey has won a gold award at the World Retail Awards held in Paris for its store design.

As the only Australian finalist in the Store Design of the Year >1200 square metre category, Shoes of Prey went up against a Puma flagship store in Osaka and a Karl Lagerfeld concept store in Paris.

“This is our first foray into physical retail, so winning ‘Store Design of the Year’ at the World Retail Awards is an incredible achievement for our team,” Michael Fox, CEO at Shoes of Prey said.

The Shoes of Prey store, which is in Sydney’s David Jones store, was designed by retail strategist company The General Store. The store is made almost entirely out of Shoes of Prey materials. The space is dominated by a 2.4-metre high flower sculpture, made from Shoes of Prey shoes; the table is finished with Shoes of Prey's soft black leather; and the chairs feature a range of materials like suede and stamped patent leather. It also features other elements such as a signature scent and a custom-composed soundtrack.

“It isn’t easy for Australian retail to compete at global awards,” Matt Newell, strategy partner at The General Store, said.

“We don’t have the scale of larger markets so it can be difficult to justify the investment. But this award shows we can do it. We have some phenomenal talent in Australian retail and I have no doubt we will continue to punch above our weight on the global stage.”
