Savills Australia Retail Services has appointed David Kleiner as retail leasing executive for its New South Wales office.

Previously with Oxford Commercial, Kleiner has worked with many of the big landlords and retailers in the industry.

“We are delighted with David joining us; He has a great track record and is well respected both by retailers and landlords for his professional problem solving approach to property,” Leighton Hunziker, divisional director of retail, said.

“Clients today are really looking for more than just a retail broker. They want an expert retail advisor. There is a lot of pressure on retail at present, with spending constrained and rentals heading south, Landlords need sound professional advice to secure not just a good rent, but a great retailer.”

According to Hunziker, there are still solid interests from international brands to establish flagship stores in Sydney’s CBD, encouraged by Sydney’s George Street redevelopment plans, and the success to date of their international counterparts.

“The Light Rail and pedestrian boulevard being created on George Street will provide a circuit breaker to constrained quality retail supply in the CBD,” he said.

“I expect Pitt Street rents will decrease as result of this new supply.”
