The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is inviting businesses to attend a free seminar and webinar to learn about the product safety system changes that have been made under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

The changes, which will come into effect in the new year, will mean that retailers, dealers and distributors will be required t o notify the ACCC within two days of learning that a consumer product or service has caused, or may cause, serious injury, illness or death.

ACCC deputy chairman Peter Kell said the ACL reforms are aimed at providing a modern, flexible and responsive national framework for consumer protection.

"It's critical that businesses are aware of their responsibilities and the support available to them during this time of change," he said.

"The free seminar is an excellent way for all businesses in the supply chain, large or small, to get direct information on exactly what product safety changes are coming up and how these changes will impact their business."

The breakfast seminar will be held in Sydney on 12 November at 7.30am. Businesses unable to attend the breakfast can register for the live webinar.
