Showcasing all things retail, from homewares, jewellery & fashion, designer, and outdoor, Reed Gift Fairs Melbourne last month, was a buzz for Australia’s gift and homewares industry.

On the opening day of one of the largest fairs of the year, celebrity chef and acclaimed restaurant-owner, Matt Moran made a special guest appearance. He was announced as Sheldon and Hammond’s brand ambassador for both Cusinart and Global for Australasia. The exclusive deal was launched at the trade fair in front of thousands of retailers looking to stock their shelves for Christmas.

Reed Gift Fairs Exhibition Director, Omer Soker says more than 850 exhibitors showcased their products for the five day fair.

“In the lead up to Christmas, the fair is a pivotal purchasing opportunity for the Australian retail industry,” Soker says.

“The demand from companies wanting to exhibit this year outstripped the space available. That’s why we launched ExhibitA at the Showgrounds to offer retailers the chance to see new exhibitors showcasing fresh designs and products.”

Mark Jones, director of Mark Jones Designs, says things are picking up for the retail market.

“Wholesalers are happy, retailers are buying up and Christmas 2010 is looking very positive for the retail industry.”

Also, for the first time, the Fair was held as part of Energise Enterprise, Victoria’s Small Business Festival, which ran throughout August.

“It’s a fantastic initiative aimed at promoting business and entrepreneurship throughout Victoria,” Soker says.

“As part of our offering, we wanted to help provide both exhibitors and retailers with the information they need to run their businesses more effectively.”

The next fair will be held in Sydney from September 11-14. For more information visit: www.reedgiftfairs.com.au.
