Metcash is in its final stage of its campaign to sell the Franklins supermarkets to IGA retailers.

Metcash CEO Andrew Reitzer said the company has received over 200 expressions of interest so far to buy the 80 supermarkets.

“We are running a thorough process to transition the supermarkets into the hands of experienced and committed independent owners. We will get the right people into the right supermarkets. This advertising campaign will ensure people register their interest now before it is too late,” he said.

“The stores have a very loyal following amongst shoppers in the areas in which they operate and their revitalisation under the IGA brand supported by the Metcash system will significantly boost their performance.”

Reitzer said discussions with potential buyers of the Franklins supermarkets would begin on 21 November.
