Local giants take on international retailers

Woolworths and Wesfarmers are taking on some of the world’s largest retailers as it joins Deloitte’s top 20 retailers list.

According to Deloitte’s 2013 Global Powers of Retailing report, Woolworths is up one place to 17th and Wesfarmers jumped from 21st to 18h position, growing faster than its local rivalry.

Meanwhile, America’s Walmart continues to dominate number one position earning US$447 billion ($A24 billion) in revenue.

The report also noted the soft environment experienced in Australia is likely to continue in 2013.
