There were reported rumours that US apparel retailer Abercrombie & Fitch had plans to open its Hollister branded stores in Australia.

And now after a chat with The Wall Street Journal it appears that these plans are going ahead.

Michael Scheiner, A&F’s director of PR and marketing, told the publication: “We are constantly evaluating new real estate possibilities and Australia was the logical next step for Hollister.

“Consumers in Australia are aware of Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister and we hope they are excited to finally have one of our brands in their backyard. We are focusing on the success of these two upcoming Hollister openings and will continue to assess the Australian market.”

Details of where they will open have not been disclosed but it’s expected they will enter the market sometime this year.

The company follows H&M’s recent announcement who said they will be opening their first Australian stores in 2014.
