American apparel retailer Hollister has been confirmed to be the next international entrant to the Australian retail market.

Hollister, which is owned by Abercrombie & Fitch, is expected to open its first store in Australia next year.

Abercrombie & Fitch chief executive Mike Jeffries confirmed its expansion to Australia, as well as the Middle East at the company’s annual conference.

The company plans to open 30 to 40 international Hollister stores a year. It now has 28 stores in the UK, 12 in Canada and 17 in Germany with plans to open 20 more international stores in 2013.

Hollister is known to stock youth surf style fashion, which would mean surfwear retailers like Billabong and Rip Curl will need to look out for this new competitor when it hits our shores.
