Specialist messaging provider, MessageMedia has introduced a free assistance package designed to support local cafes and restaurants switch to a takeaway and ‘text-in’ operating model.

The package includes free messaging credits, dedicated phone number and support from the MessageMedia team to redirect dine-in services to takeaway and delivery options via SMS, as well as access to advice and tools via a dedicated COVID-19 customer resources hub, including high-performing messaging templates.

MessageMedia CEO, Paul Perrett said as this crisis worsens and businesses face temporary closure, the company wants to do its part to help customers and others in the hospitality industry who are doing it tough right now.

“So many restaurants and cafés are scrambling to shift from a dine-in to a take-away business model and we know that the quicker that happens the more people’s jobs and livelihoods can be saved,” he said.

“That’s why MessageMedia is offering this free package for those impacted, so they can quickly provide a convenient method for customers to order pick-up or delivery without having to pay a third party.

“It can be done without requiring someone to man a phone line, which we know is crucial at a time when many are so busy re-rostering staff, automating old processes and streamlining new sources of revenue.”

MessageMedia has also provide four simple tips for moving a business to takeaway or delivery:

  1. Publish the menu online so it can be linked to text messages
  2. Consider ‘leave at door’ delivery options to protect customers and employees with no-contact delivery
  3. Continue to follow food safety best practices from public health authorities
  4. Read the MessageMedia blog on COVID-19 business continuity: how the hospitality industry can stay afloat
