Ian Muir, founder of The Muir Electrical Company Pty Ltd and The Good Guys passed away last week after a short illness.
Muir opened his first store in North Essendon in 1952 and continued to drive the growth of electrical retailing throughout Australia culminating with the formation of The Good Guys in the early 90s. He was a founding member of NARTA and served as chairman from 1982 to 1987.
“To both retailers and suppliers, he was a leader and an inspirational mentor for many, an industry icon until his retirement, showing his persistence, strength and courage in tough times. Ian was a determined visionary which is reflected by the success of The Good Guys today,” said Andrew Muir.
Muir was 79 and is survived by his wife Joan, son Andrew and daughter Carolyn.
