In an Australian-first, Emporium Melbourne has partnered with Melbourne-based social enterprise Thankyou, by purchasing the company’s life-changing hand soap for its centre bathrooms.

The partnership, the first by a major premium shopping centre, will not only promote good hygiene locally, but will also fund essential sanitation programs in developing countries.

Many infectious diseases are spread by contaminated hands. Washing with liquid soap will remove substantially more germs than cleaning hands with water alone, preventing the spread of bacteria and viruses.

Tiffany Ellul, Marketing Manager of Emporium Melbourne, said: “Emporium Melbourne is a big believer in corporate social responsibility. We support what Thankyou stands for, and we are very excited to give Melbournians a chance to change lives in developing countries whilst shopping in the CBD at Emporium Melbourne.”

With more than 18 million people shopping and passing through Emporium Melbourne each year, a priority for centre management is ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for visitors to the centre.

To date, Thankyou has given over $3.3 million to projects in 17 countries, including funding for safe water access, as well as immediate and long-term food solutions for people in need.
