LAS VEGAS: E-books are everywhere at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with at least a dozen unknown brands exhibiting at the show up against Sony and its nemesis Samsung.

Companies such as Netronix, Hanlin, Demy, Bookeen, Pocket Book, Interead, Marvell, Aluratek have been joined by a number of companies with e-book accessories and waterproof casings such as M-edge.



One company approached by Current.com.au was offering OEM deals with minimum order quantities of 5,000 units for a Wi-Fi-enabled reader with 3G, touch panel, SD slot and 128MB of built in memory for $US170 per unit.

Traditionally known in the Australian market as an mp3 supplier, iRiver has released one of the more attractive models on the market – the iRiver Story which features 2GB of internal memory that can be supplemented with an SD card. The six-inch display weighs 284 grams and comes in 16 languages. It features an mp3 music player with files transferrable via USB 2.0. It will retail for $US279.
