Following the successful launch of its car insurance product, Coles has now entered the home and content insurance market.

Jim Cooper, Coles spokesperson, told Retailbiz that Coles is confident in offering home insurance.

“The reality is it’s something that supermarket retailers in other markets for have been offering for quite a while,” he said.

He also noted that research indicated that “customers would be prepared to purchase insurance cover from a supermarket if it was built and delivered accordingly” and that the “car insurance will be bring viable business in”.

Coles Home Insurance features cover for natural causes, theft, demotion, temporary accommodation, high-value items at no extra cost and outdoor items. Three choices of quality insurance cover are available both online and through a dedicated call centre – building and contents, building only and contents only insurance.

As part of the offer, Coles Home Insurance policy holders will earn triple FlyBuys points on the first $500 they spend at Coles Supermarkets every month for a year as well as an additional 5 per cent discount if the policy is bought online.
