Coles is investing $35 million in the Broken Hill Plaza shopping centre development.

The 4,200 square metre Coles market-style supermarket will exist alongside a 3,800 square metre Target store and up to 3,300 square metres specialty retail space.

Coles’ director of property Greg Chubb said the Broken Hill Plaza development will enhance the town’s shopping experience.

“I’m pleased we are able to give The City of Broken Hill residents certainty that this development will now proceed and I’m confident it will prove a valued asset to the community,” he said.

The existing Coles store at 234 Patton St will continue to trade until the new Coles at the Broken Hill Plaza opens and all team members will be given roles in the new store once complete. The new store will also provide employment for further 80 team members.

Work on the Broken Hill Plaza is expected to start mid-2012, creating approximately 165 construction jobs, with the centre expected to open mid-2013.
