Rivers Australia, Sanity Music Stores and Thomas Jewellers have been named and shamed in the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency’s (EOWA) Annual Report for breaching the law which requires them to submit an annual compliance report that enables the assessment of conditions and provisions for women in the workplace.

These retailers join nine other organisations on the non-compliant organisation list; seven have breached the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 for more than three year while ten organisations did not bother to submit a report at all.

“More than 2500 organisations provided the Agency with information about their organisation’s policies and programs to address equal opportunity for women. As a result of this process they receive tailored advice and support from EOWA,” Mairi Steele, EOWA acting director, said.

“It’s very disappointing that the 12 recalcitrant employers were not able to provide this information despite numerous offers of assistance from EOWA.”

As a result of being named on the non-compliant list, the retailers are prohibited from trading with the federal government, and some state and territory governments. They are also ineligible for certain industry assistance programs.
