Barkly Square in Melbourne’s Brunswick has unveiled the first stage of its $17 million refurbishment.

Stage One features the newly created fresh food market precinct with retailers including Bakers Delight, Pure Poultry, Boyson’s Butcher, Seafood Paradise, Michel’s Patisserie, John’s Nuts and Gangemi’s Fruit & Vegetables, a retailer who has called Barkly Square home for 29 years.

“We are thrilled to deliver a brand new, reinvigorated Barkly Square to the Brunswick community. Stage One will showcase some exciting developments and we look forward to celebrating Barkly Square’s 30th birthday next year with the best present of all; a fantastic shopping experience and community hub that embraces the culturally diverse atmosphere this area is known for,” said Frances Dimech, senior marketing manager.

Expected to be completed in April 2013, the ISPT-owned sub-regional shopping centre is receiving a full upgrade of internal and external appearances, amenities and a new retail mix to build on its existing fresh food heritage. It will continue to be anchored by its existing majors Coles, Woolworths and Kmart while also welcoming the addition of JB Hi-Fi.
