Clay workers, jewellery makers, craftspeople and woodturners are just some of the artists set to showcase their products within Artisan Lane, part of this year’s Melbourne Gift Fair being held from 5 to 9 August at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Established as part of the Fair since 2019, Artisan Lane is designed to support Australia’s up and coming artists, increasing their exposure to industry buyers at the Fairs in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Nanzita Pantalonez Creations will expand out of the home office and directly in front of potential customers.

“To promote my handcrafted basket for people to see is difficult. I work from home and have converted my garage into my studio and stock room. I have baskets ready for display but I’m now relying on my website and social media channels, which is not enough to get future clients and customers,” Nanzita said.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to exhibit at this year’s Melbourne Gift Fair, to meet and have a conversation with Melbourne gift shop owners and businesses. I’m hoping they will love my basket and give me the opportunity to display it on retail shelves,” she said.

Australian Gift and Homewares Association CEO, Linda Hickey said the artists will handcraft their bespoke products in real time, as buyers enjoy a wander through the Lane.

“Artisan Lane is always a highlight for our attendees. It’s fantastic to be able to watch the creative process of emerging artists.  We’ve received positive feedback since we’ve implemented it as a fixture in both our Sydney and Melbourne Gift Fairs,” she said.

“It’s incredibly important to be supporting up and coming artists with undeniable craft and talent. We love sponsoring them to be involved in our Gift Fairs and it’s a personal highlight for me. They are the future of the industry.”

The Melbourne Gift Fair is Australia’s largest industry-led trade event, connecting over 300 arts, fashion, homewares, gifts and toys wholesalers with retail, corporate and hospitality buyers.
