Aldi Stores is bucking industry trends with recruitment still high on the agenda as it is actively seeking graduates for its Graduate Area Manager program.

David Zalunardo, Aldi Stores managing director, Prestons, said Aldi is bucking the current graduate recruitment trend.

“While many companies are scaling back their programs, our recruitment drive is going full steam ahead and our intake is likely to increase,” he said.

“The grocery retailing sector continues to perform well and our strong growth targets mean that we need to increase our existing talent pool. It is an exciting time to be part of our industry and we are looking for driven individuals who thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment.”

Ideal candidates need not be recent graduates, but must have tertiary qualifications, demonstrate maturity and have management and leadership skills gained from previous employment, university clubs or community work, according to Zalunardo.

Places in the Graduate Area Manager program are based on the east coast of
Australia and this year, Aldi is offering a starting salary of $83,600 increasing to $127,250 over four years, along with a fully-maintained company car, and five weeks annual leave.

Aldi’s preference for promoting internally also means that graduates with strong performance records are often put on a fast-track program with opportunities at director level across various functional areas.

“We have very high expectations of our graduates and we only appoint the best and most talented individuals. The Graduate Area Manager program is focused on developing leaders to drive our business in the future,” said Zalunardo.
