ABC Commercial’s retail division today unveiled the new look for ABC Shops at the launch of its new concept store at Bondi Junction in eastern Sydney.

The store is the first of its kind for the ABC and marks a shift in the way the corporation presents itself in the retail market.

New features include the prominent use of large-format television screens to present a range of product and promotional messages as well as live television images. The shop will also feature continual news updates from the ABC news room and program highlights from all the ABC’s television, radio and online channels.

Director of ABC Commercial, Lynley Marshall said the new Bondi Junction shop presented a much closer link between the retail environment and the on-air content of the ABC.

“We have created a retail space that is much more of a destination and one that offers the customer a more interactive and engaging ABC experience,” she said.

“A lot of planning has gone into the presentation of the store. We have a dedicated children’s space, a quieter space to browse and another area where we are able to present live events such as author appearances or children’s character meet and greets on a regular basis.”

ABC Commercial plans to roll out the new look in all of its 43 retail outlets around the country over the next couple of years.

Other key shop features include a digital ‘hub’ where customers will be guided through the ABC’s online site as well as access to more than 10,000 ABC Shop products – all of which can be ordered for either in-store pick up or home delivery.

The new store is also committed to introducing and assisting with new technologies such as Blu-ray DVD, digital free-to-air television channels and the soon-to-be-launched digital radio service.
