Amazon Australia is inviting businesses to sell like-new products (refurbished, pre-owned and open-box) to Amazon customers, including mobile phones, computers, tables and audio products, as part of its Renewed program.

Products must undergo rigorous testing and inspections by qualified suppliers to work and look like new. If successful, products will become available with a six-month warranty from the selling partner.

“Renewed provides Australian customers with great discounts on good as new products, paired with the reassurance of a six-month warranty and the convenience of having it delivered to their door,” Amazon Australia country manager, Matt Furlong said.

Amazon is taking advantage of the $43 billion second-hand economy by moving into the ‘like-new’ product market.

Almost 95 million used goods were sold in the last 12 months, according to the 2019 Gumtree Second-Hand Economy report. Clothing, shoes and accessories are the most unwanted item group, followed by electronics. Of those selling second hand, 78% were sold online.
