Australia Post is developing six new greenfield sites in Tumut, Leeton, Casino, Deniliquin, Forbes, and Byron Bay to bolster parcel capacity and enhance services across in rural and regional NSW.
The new facilities are designed to handle 900 parcels to 2,200 parcels per day, with improved operational safety and efficiency.
All sites will feature 50kW rooftop solar power generation while some of them will have rainwater harvesting and EV charging capability.
“In New South Wales, we’ve seen online purchases increase by 2.8 per cent year-on-year, with data indicating that 82% of NSW households are now shopping online,” said Shane Plant, General Manager Network Development and Support Services at Australia Post.
“As regional areas increasingly depend on eCommerce due to fewer physical retail offerings, these purpose-built sites will enable Australia Post to meet the growing parcel demand in these regions.”
Construction has already commenced on the 600 sqm site in Tumut, which is slated to open in late 2025.
In Leeton, work on the 1,105 sqm site is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with an expected opening towards the end of the same year. The same timeline applies to new sites in Casino (1,350 sqm), Deniliquin (1,335 sqm), and Forbes (1,796 sqm).
Meanwhile, the largest of the new locations, a 3,072 sqm site in Byron Bay, is scheduled to begin construction in mid-2026, with opening expected by mid-2027.
