Global digital payments leader Visa has introduced Visa Intelligent Commerce, a new initiative aimed at enabling developers and engineers to build AI agents that could transform the way people shop and pay.
The platform offers direct access to Visa’s vast payment network, opening up new opportunities for AI-driven commerce.
Visa Intelligent Commerce includes a comprehensive suite of APIs and a commercial partner program designed to help developers integrate secure, AI-powered payment capabilities into their solutions.
Among the platform’s standout features are AI-ready cards, AI-powered personalization, and seamless, secure payment experiences tailored by artificial intelligence.
These tools will allow AI agents to operate based on user-defined preferences and guidelines—ensuring that consumers remain in control of their spending while streamlining the entire transaction process.
“Soon people will have AI agents browse, select, purchase and manage on their behalf. These agents will need to be trusted with payments, not only by users, but by banks and sellers as well,” said Jack Forestell, Visa’s Chief Product and Strategy Officer.
“Now, with Visa Intelligent Commerce, AI agents can find, shop and buy for consumers based on their pre-selected preferences. Each consumer sets the limits, and Visa helps manage the rest.”
The initiative is grounded in Visa’s decades-long expertise in using artificial intelligence and machine learning to manage risk and prevent fraud. With more than 30 years of AI experience, Visa is applying its deep knowledge of secure transactions to this new frontier in commerce.
To further strengthen its AI strategy, Visa is partnering with key players in the tech industry including Anthropic, IBM, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Samsung, to ensure that AI commerce remains both personalized and secure for users worldwide.
“We’re working with companies at the forefront of AI innovation to encourage AI platform participation and support new ways to pay with security and trust as our number one priority. Together with our partners, we fully embrace AI’s potential to transform all aspects of commerce, payments and business,” Forestell added.
