Brisbane entrepreneur and Universal Store co-founder Greg Josephson died after being stabbed at his Clayfield home during a party attended by dozens of teenagers.
According to 7News, the 58-year-old was found critically injured upstairs at the property in Brisbane’s north around 8.15pm on Thursday.
Police believe his body may have been there for hours while more than 30 teenagers partied downstairs, unaware of the incident.
Emergency services arrived just after 8.30pm to what officers described as a “chaotic” scene.
A 15-year-old boy known to Josephson was taken into custody later that evening. CCTV obtained by 7News shows the teen behind a café in nearby Ascot at about 8pm, shortly before his arrest. He had a minor injury when apprehended, and police say he was the one who called triple-0.
A weapon believed to be involved in the incident has been recovered. Investigators have not yet confirmed whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
Josephson was a father of three and a respected figure in Australia’s retail scene. He co-founded Universal Store with his brother Michael in 1999 and stepped down from the business in 2018.
Neighbour Corinne Matthews told 7News that children at the party appeared visibly shaken.
“There were a couple of girls who leaned over and said, ‘We got invited to this party and now all we want to do is go home and we’re not allowed to leave.’ They were dreadfully upset,” she said.
The teenager, who had recently changed schools and is reportedly linked to two of Brisbane’s top boys’ colleges, faced a brief mention in Children’s Court on Friday.
No bail application was made. He is due to return to court in September.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
