Shopify has rolled out over 150 updates across its platform.

Shopify has released its Summer ‘25 Edition, titled Horizons, introducing over 150 updates across its platform.

The latest edition includes new features for online store design, point-of-sale systems, the Shop app, and payments infrastructure, as well as expanded tools powered by artificial intelligence.

At the centre of the update is a new theme framework called Horizon, designed to help merchants create customisable storefronts without requiring coding knowledge.

“Our latest Edition, Horizons, represents a step change in how our merchants can spend less time on tech and more time building their brands,” said Shaun Broughton, Managing Director, APAC at Shopify.

“These updates enhance their efficiency and customer engagement, while progressing toward our vision of ‘declarative commerce’, where merchants can simply express their goals, and our system charts the optimal path forward. Through this shift, merchants can focus on innovation and strategic growth rather than time-consuming tasks.”

Horizon introduces a flexible layout system, streamlined product discovery tools, and a suite of AI-powered features, including AI Block Generation. This tool offers real-time, intelligent layout suggestions, enabling merchants to build polished, high-performing pages more efficiently. Horizon also includes 10 professionally designed theme presets, each optimised for engagement and conversion.

AI Store Builder, released alongside Horizon, generates three store layout options based on a few descriptive keywords. Each layout includes placeholder images and text, allowing merchants to modify a base design rather than start from scratch.

In physical retail, Shopify is rolling out POS v10, a redesigned version of its Point of Sale application. The update includes a new interface, search and cart enhancements, and support for merchant branding on customer-facing displays. A new “Ship and Carry Out” feature allows customers to choose mixed delivery and pickup options in a single transaction.

Updates to the Shop app include a personalised home feed that adjusts in real time based on user behaviour. Shoppers can now organise saved items into themed collections and share them with others. Native and custom product swatches have also been added to improve variant selection and display.

Shopify Payments now supports multi-entity and multi-currency operations from a single store. Merchants can manage legal entities across markets and receive payouts in up to eight currencies, while still accepting payments in over 130 currencies.

Shopify has also introduced tools focused on AI discoverability and internal insights. The new Knowledge Base app allows merchants to generate store information and FAQs for AI platforms such as ChatGPT and Claude. This content can be customised to reflect brand details while remaining machine-readable.

The company’s AI assistant, Sidekick, has been updated to handle more complex tasks. It now connects to multiple data sources, performs multi-step analysis, and provides suggested actions based on observed patterns.

Developers are being offered access to Shopify Catalog, a structured database of product listings across the platform. The data can be used by AI agents and applications to surface relevant products to shoppers.

Shopify has also introduced Storefront MCP, a toolkit that enables developers to build brand-specific AI shopping assistants. The system is built on Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol and allows agents to access store-level data and catalog information to guide AI-powered shopping interactions.

The Horizons release reflects broader updates to the Shopify ecosystem, with a focus on AI integration, storefront flexibility, and operational scalability for merchants across different channels.
