Global secondhand retailer Savers is expanding its presence in Sydney with two new stores launching this winter.
The first one, the Camperdown Thrift Superstore, will open on July 31, Thursday. The second one, the Marsden Park Thrift Superstore, will open on August 21, Thursday.
Situated on Parramatta Road in the Inner West, the Camperdown store will be Savers’ first three-level location in Australia, offering 2,000 square metres of secondhand goods. Located near King Street and the University of Sydney, the store aims to serve students, locals, and eco-conscious shoppers.
The Marsden Park store anchors a new retail development on Richmond Road, joining established outlets such as El Jannah and Snap Fitness. Positioned to serve one of Sydney’s fastest-growing family areas, the two Savers stores will feature thousands of secondhand items across apparel, homewares, and accessories, and more.
Most items will be priced under $10 on average, aligning with the brand’s focus on accessible and sustainable secondhand retail items. Michael Fisher, Managing Director at Savers Australia, stated that the brand’s ongoing expansion in New South Wales signals changing consumer shopping behaviours.
“We’re thrilled to be expanding our Thrift Proud movement in Sydney, giving more people the opportunity to shop consciously, access affordable quality goods, and keep reusable items out of landfill,” said Fisher.
“Each store has been purposefully located to meet the needs of its surrounding community – whether that’s busy students and Inner West locals in Camperdown, or young families and growing neighbourhoods of Marsden Park, Sydney’s diverse communities are embracing what it means to be Thrift Proud.”
The upcoming store openings will bring the retailer’s Sydney presence to five locations, occurring just over a year after entering the New South Wales market.
“Entering New South Wales last year was a significant step for Savers, and the response from Sydney’s thrift shoppers has been incredibly encouraging. Our expansion reflects not only the demand for quality secondhand goods but also our commitment to making sustainable, pre-loved fashion and homewares accessible to more Australians,” said Fisher.
To support Savers’ goal of normalising secondhand shopping, the new stores will help add to over 9.1 million kilograms of reusable items kept out of landfills annually by its Australian network.
Secondhand purchases help conserve water, lower pollution, and reduce energy consumption, presenting a straightforward and meaningful way for consumers to engage in sustainable practices.
Through its partnerships with not-for-profit organisations, Savers supports local communities by purchasing donated goods. This allows charity partners to fund critical community programs and services. From FY2020 to FY2024, Savers has contributed more than $20 million to its Australian not-for-profit partners.
The launch of the Camperdown and Marsden Park stores will provide job opportunities for local residents who are eager for sustainability, retail, and extending the life of quality goods.
