QBD Books has been recognised as one of Australia’s top private businesses in Deloitte Australia’s 2024 Best Managed Companies awards for the second year in a row.

The awards highlight companies excelling in strategy, culture, innovation, and financial performance. QBD Books CEO Nick Croydon credited the company’s growth to its strong staff engagement and focus on customer experience.

“This award reflects QBD’s continued growth, commitment to staff engagement and focus on customer experience in our stores and online,” Croydon said.

“Our community of 1,200 staff across our stores during peak periods, plus 32 dedicated team members in our Brisbane head office, continue to be the driving force of QBD’s growth and success. As we approach our goal of 100 stores, it is integral to us that we keep a high standard and the customer’s experience at the forefront of what we do.”

QBD’s ACE (Awesome Customer Experiences) strategy plays a key role, providing staff with training and tools to enhance service. The company also runs an internal recognition program and promotes from within, with over 70 per cent of store managers rising through the ranks.

QBD has invested in technology like Kepler Analytics to improve customer engagement and staff efficiency. Despite a challenging retail market, the company reported 8.4 per cent year-on-year sales growth in 2024, outperforming a 3 per cent national decline.

Croydon accepted the award on behalf of QBD’s retail teams and support office staff, reaffirming the company’s commitment to growth and customer service.
