Japanese lifestyle retailer MUJI has announced plans to open its Australian flagship store in Melbourne in early 2028.

Spanning approximately 3,300 square metres across three floors, the new location will be situated in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD and will become the brand’s largest retail outlet in Australia.

The flagship store will feature MUJI’s full range of minimalist and functional products, including household goods, apparel, food, and personal care items.

Founded on the principles of simplicity and purpose, MUJI’s design philosophy centres on three key elements: the careful selection of materials, streamlined production processes, and the elimination of unnecessary packaging. Each product is designed to combine functionality, affordability, and timeless design to improve everyday living.

The Melbourne flagship will mark MUJI’s seventh store in Australia. The brand first entered the Australian market in 2013 with its Chadstone Shopping Centre store, followed by openings at Emporium Melbourne in 2014 and The Galeries in Sydney in 2015.

Since its debut, MUJI has established a strong following among Australian consumers drawn to its minimalist aesthetic and focus on sustainable, well-crafted design.
