MGA Independent Businesses Australia (MGA) has appointed Martin Stirling as its new CEO, effective July 1, 2025.
For the past two and a half years, Stirling served as Director of Legal Services on MGA’s leadership team. In this role, he supervised the organisation’s industrial relations and legal policy agenda, advocating for reforms that support the independent retail sector.
“Martin has the trust of our members and the respect of policymakers and industry stakeholders. His understanding of the regulatory and commercial environment, and his passion for representing independent businesses, made him the clear choice to lead MGA into the future,” said Grant Hinchcliffe, President of MGA.
Before becoming a part of MGA, Stirling held roles in the private, government, and not-for-profit sectors such as Senior Legal Counsel at Fire Rescue Victoria, Senior Associate at Gilchrist Connell, Director at BPD Community Victoria, and Senior Adjudicator at Debaters Association of Victoria.
Stirling will take over from David Inall, who has led MGA through a phase of strategic growth and strengthened advocacy. The Board extends its appreciation to Inall for his service.
“Independent retailers are essential to the economic and social fabric of our communities. I’m honoured to be entrusted with this role and will continue working closely with our members, government, and industry to ensure independent businesses remain strong, competitive and heard,” said Stirling.
