IKEA has launched the limited-edition, world-first flatpack flip flops as part of its 50th anniversary in Australia.
Known as FLIP FLÖPS, the item is a flatpack take on a common Australian staple, requiring basic assembly in three steps.
The launch forms part of IKEA’s nationwide anniversary weekend from May 31 to June 1, 2025, with in-store events and promotional offers across its 10 Australian locations.
IKEA has also released new consumer research to mark the milestone. It found that 87 per cent of Australians have visited an IKEA store, and more than 80 per cent have owned at least one piece of IKEA furniture.
The data also revealed that around a third of respondents have taken an IKEA pencil home, and over a third reported getting lost inside a store.
In a separate statement, brand tracking platform Tracksuit said that Ikea remains one of Australia’s most beloved furniture and homeware brands, with 87 per cent brand awareness, well above the competitor average.
Australians who are familiar with Ikea overwhelmingly associate it with value for money, with 61 per cent citing this as a key attribute, followed by ease of purchase at 45 per cent and on-trend designs at 44 per cent.
The brand also scores highly on trust at 39 per cent and consideration, with 73 per cent of those aware of Ikea saying they would shop there, outperforming the competitor average of 65 per cent.
IKEA opened its first Australian location in Sydney in 1975. Today, the company employs over 3,900 people in Australia and recorded more than 17 million in-store visits and 105 million online visits in 2024.
