MYOB, PayPal help build web presence

Earlier in the year, MYOB partnered with Google to offer businesses the opportunity to create a website with online step-by-step guidance through the Getting Aussie Business Online campaign.

Now, MYOB has partnered with PayPal Australia to offer a new e-commerce-in-a-box solution that will allow small business to establish a web presence and begin accepting online payments within an hour.

The e-commerce features of the MYOB Atlas enhances the current Getting Aussie Business Online where it provides small businesses with the opportunity to establish an eCommerce enabled website at no cost.

Tim Reed, MYOB CEO, said with more consumers looking online for their buying decisions, Australian Aussie retailers need to establish an online business to keep up with changing consumer attitudes.

“By providing these businesses with the ability to be online and transactional within an hour we believe we are removing the barriers holding some small businesses back from participating in the digital economy,” he said.

Since November 2010, the number of Australian businesses with a website has increased to 39 per cent, with a further 22 per cent planning to create a website within the next 12 months. However, the majority of Australian businesses (57 per cent) still do not promote or sell products and services online.

Frerk-Malte Feller, managing director of PayPal Australia said: “Online retail is experiencing phenomenal growth at 12 per cent YoY (2), with more and more local retailers recognising the need to take advantage of the surge in online shopping to remain competitive in an evolving retail environment.”

MYOB Atlas allows users to personalise their website by adding a logo or banner, add news to keep their website up to date, link out to social networks and gives them the ability to sell online.

I tried to use PayPal's credit card facility on a small Australian business website and it refused to accept my (valid) details for two different cards! I sent feedback to PayPal and have yet to hear anything back from them - I wasn't too happy, let me tell you. It was an urgent purchase and I ended up having to go to the city and spend as much on parking as it would have cost for the product if PayPal had got their act together! I DID receive an apology from the e-tailer the next working day, but I had already solved my purchasing problem by then. They told me they thought it might have been a (mobile) phone number formatting issue - pity that PaPal couldn't a/ get it right & b/ let me know what was wrong so I could fix it. As far as I'm concerned, it was an EPIC FAIL on PayPal's part! I will be avoiding any websites they support in future - don't want to go through that again!
