Sydney-based Task Retail Technology wins Dell award

Task Retail Technology has won the 2008 Dell Small Business Excellence Award. The Sydney-based small business, which specialises in point of sale (POS) software solutions that enhances the ordering process for retail outlets, was chosen for its innovative use of technology to better serve customers, says Dell.

“Task Retail was chosen for creating a revolutionary web-centric POS software solution that has the ability to deliver real-time terminal management, transaction data, as well as a range of key sales information anywhere in the world,” says Kevin O’Kane, Dell small and medium business general manager for Australia and New Zealand.

Task Retail Technology developed its award wining POS software solution over four years and was the brain-child of Daniel Houden and his father, managing director Kym Houden, who says the award couldn’t have come at a better time.

“We have had such a great year having beaten some billion dollar companies by signing major contracts with some of Australia’s biggest names. We take our hat off to Dell for supporting us and other Australian small businesses. The prize will be a huge assistance as our business expands.”

The company will receive $25,000 worth of prizes, a meeting with Michael Dell and a chance to win a further $25,000 in the international version of the awards.

Task retail technology employs 13 staff to service some of the largest brands in Australia including Muffin Break, Jamaica Blue, bb’s, Brumby’s Bread, Donut King and Michel’s Patisserie, totaling over 1300 stores. Other clients include Sydney Turf Club, hotels, clubs and Sydney University.

The company also plans to expand into the North American market and is in the process securing contracts with major arena and stadium clients.
