LG's Flat Panel Super Focus

LG Electronics India Limited, subsidiary of Korean major LG, would focus on flat panel display TVs in the Indian market and was aiming for a revenue of Rs 9, 000 crore for 2006, a company official said.

The FPD segment, LCD and Plasma, are growing at a phenomenal pace as compared to the conventional CRT televisions, Lgeil (Sales and Marketing) vice-President Girish V Rao said.

While CRT category grew by 9-10 per cent every year, the FPD segment was growing at 115 per cent per annum.

Rao said in future, the FPD segment would be the bread earner for the company.

Currently, LG's market share in the segment was 34 per cent, occupying the second slot after Samsung.

The size of this segment, which is one lakh units per annum, is expected to touch 2.9 lakh units in the next few years.

Rao also said consumer preferences were shifting to high end of the FPD market in the 32 inches and above category.

The company also planned to boost sales during the ensuing festive season.

During the festive period, the company is targeting a turnover of Rs 250 crore from the eastern region, for which it has already earmarked a big adspend.

LG's current total turnover is Rs 7,500 crore and also enjoys leadership position in major domestic home appliances category.
